It was a very busy start to term 2 as some of the children from 4th , 5th and 6th Class worked on creating lemon powered cars for the Young Scientist Science Fair in the R.D.S. last week. After many trials and failed attempts the children finally had success and created a battery that was powered by lemon juice! The children had a lot of work to do; building their cars and batteries , testing and changing their findings and typing up their results. Then they put all of their work together to create a very professional looking stand at the R.D.S.  They also spoke to other children and the judges about the project. The children received excellent feedback from the judges, children and teachers from other schools.

We are so proud of their hard work and achievements and we would like to thank the parents who used their expertise to help develop this fine project and also a massive congratulations to Fiona and Aoife!

On behalf of the staff of Belmayne Educate Together we would like to wish the whole school community very Happy Christmas and New Year.

We have received such fantastic feedback about the Christmas Play this year and we really appreciate your kind words and encouragement.

We were so proud of all the children who worked tirelessly over the past 6 weeks to make the show so very special this year.

Hi Everybody

The remainder of the tickets for the Christmas Play go on sale tomorrow morning.

You can buy you extra tickets now in the mornings from 8.30 am from Maeve and Elaine. Tickets cost five euro.

The play is on next Tuesday 20th and Wednesday 21st December. The play will start promptly at 6.00 pm. Parents are asked to drop the children off at the Donahies school at 5.40 pm.

The Garda Band dropped into Belmayne E.T.N.S. today to play a few of our favourite Christmas songs. We sang all of the classic tunes including Rudolf  and Jingle Bells. Then we all got up to do a very funny version of Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes with the teachers doing the actions at the front!

All that singing has put everyone in the mood for the holidays!

All parents are invited to attend our Annual Well-being Evening taking place in school on Thursday 24th November at 7.30 pm.

The evening has been organised by the Parents Council and is a very sociable night where parents can indulge in some hair and beauty treatments, attend a make up lesson or take part in an acupuncture session. Sam visits Belmayne

We were lucky enough to have two members of the Dublin Panel visit us with the Sam Maguire Cup.

A big thanks to Stephen from Trinity Gaels for organising the visit and a very special thanks to Dean Kelly and Eamonn Fennell for meeting the children and staff.

Eamonn and Dean had lots of inspirational words of wisdom to pass on to the kids and we hope to see some of our own Belmayne ETNS children on the Dublin Panel in the future.

Hi Everyone

The campaign for a new Student Council has started in Belmayne ETNS. Children from 5th and 6th Class will be looking for votes from all pupils. The positions that need to be filled are President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.  All children from Junior Infants -6th class will vote in the election which will take place on Wednesday. There are 11 candidates in the running. Each candidate has visited the classes and explained why they would make a suitable president. The candidates have received lots of help and support from their campaign managers. You can see each of the candidate’s posters in the front porch of the main school entrance.

The role of the Student Council is extremely important in our school as they represent the voices of the pupils here in Belmayne. They also plan and organise events such as the recent school disco, they promote and develop initiatives like the Green School Flag and they contribute valuable ideas and feedback to the Board of Management.  We will update you all shortly with the results!

We are delighted to announce that Belmayne E.T.N.S. will be celebrating the International Day of Peace on Saturday 24th of September 2011.
The event is being held at Trinty Gaels G.A.A. grounds from 2.00 pm – 5.00 pm.
It will be a wonderful family day with games and races for the children and tag rugby for the adults.
There will be a tea and coffee stall and a barbeque to keep everybody fed and watered!

The International Day of Peace (“Peace Day”) provides an opportunity for individuals, organisations and nations to create practical acts of peace on a shared date. It was established by a United Nations resolution in 1981 to coincide with the opening of the General Assembly. The first Peace Day was celebrated in September 1982 and Belmayne E.T.N.S. celebrated Peace Day for the first time last year.

If you would like to help out on the day or in the run up to the event please contact Sinéad, Claire in the office or Maeve Mc Neill or you can let any of the teachers know.

We will post more information about the day closer to the event. Please check back for a schedule shortly.

I hope you have all had a lovely summer and are looking forward to starting school with us in September.

School will start on Monday 29th September at 8:30 am. Generally children line up in the yard each morning but to begin with we ask that Junior Infant parents bring their children to the classroom. We will email you letting you know which class your child will be in shortly. We are not in a position to post class lists on our website for privacy reasons until your child has officially started school.

All children will start school at 8:30 and we ask that you are in school on time each day. Junior Infants will finish at 12 noon for the first three weeks. Full days will start on Monday 19 August – children in Junior and Senior Infants will finish at 1:20, older classes will finish at 2:20. There will be tea and coffee in the parent’s room upstairs on the first morning for any parents who wish to stay and chat for a while.
From previous experience we feel that it is best not to stay in the classroom once you drop off your child as sometimes other children can worry if their parent/guardian is not there also. We will always contact you if your child needs you.

Children will be brought out to the basketball courts at noon each day. To give teachers a chance to get to know you please make sure you wait to collect your child from the teacher in turn.
Children attending the After School Club will be collected before they leave the classroom each day and taken to the After School Club. If your require after school care for the first three weeks or during the mid-term breaks please contact the After School Manager Karolina on 087-1613836. Karolina will be in the After School Club each morning over the next three week if you want to call and make an appointment to visit the after school.

While there will be milk and a sandwich available for your child each day you may prefer to give your child their own snack. The school have a healthy eating policy which was addressed in your information pack; you can also read this on our website. As the Junior Infant day is short they will have approximately 15 minutes to eat during the morning break at 10:25 so they will not need a large lunch

Teacher run after school activities will start in October and will be run in blocks of 8 weeks. The second block of 8 week classes will start in February. Activities will be decided upon at the first staff meeting in September. This year we ran Speech and Drama, Art, Sports, Guitar, Chess and cookery classes but these may change.

There will be lots of opportunity to get involved in the school and we look forward to getting to know you all and welcoming your child to our school community.
